Ruth Jones (1926-2022)

Ruth Jones, a beloved mother, grandmother, and tireless advocate for the homeless, passed away peacefully at the age of 88. Born in Athens, Georgia, in 1934 to Linda and Alan Brown, Ruth dedicated her life to helping those in need and making the world a better place.

Ruth pursued her education with passion and excellence, earning her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Georgia in 1968, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Her commitment to social justice and community service defined her career and left a lasting impact on countless lives.

For over 25 years, Ruth served as the Director of Development for the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless. Under her leadership, the organization raised over $20 million, providing essential services such as food, shelter, and sanitation to local families in need. Ruth often said that aside from her family, this was her greatest achievement.

Ruth’s dedication extended beyond her professional life. She was an avid painter and crocheter, finding joy and peace in her creative pursuits. Her compassion and generosity were also evident in her significant donations to various organizations dedicated to helping the homeless.

Ruth is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah, her son-in-law, John, and her cherished grandchildren, Allison and Stephan. Her family remembers her as a source of inspiration and love, always driven by her mantra, “I’ll fight every day to make sure everyone I encounter has a safe place to sleep at night.”

Ruth Jones’s legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the difference one person can make in the world. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
